      Wrist/Hand: Diagnoses and Locations Glossary

      This article serves as a glossary of the diagnoses and location details currently available in the DataBiologics platform. It is designed as a quick reference for members to easily review the standardized terms used across the system.

      Diagnoses Available: 

      • Bone Marrow Lesion: an abnormal area of bone marrow. 
        Locations available: -Lunate 
                                           -Lunate Capitate Joint
                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint
                                           -Metacarpal 
                                           -Scaphoid 
                                           -Trapezium 
                                           -Trapezoid 
        Other terminology might include: BME (bone marrow edema)
      • Bursitis: a condition that causes inflammation of the bursae.
        Locations available: -Lunate Capitate Joint 
                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint 
        Other terminology might include:

        ulnar/radial bursa, horseshoe abscess

      • DeQuervain Tenosynovitis: a condition that causes inflammation of the tendons and their sheaths on the thumb side of the wrist. 
        Locations available: -Lunate Capitate Joint 
                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint 

      • Effusion:  an abnormal accumulation of fluid in a body cavity or space.

        Locations available: -Digit 2-5 Distal Interphalangeal 
                                           -Digit 2-5 Metacarpal phalangeal
                                           -Digit 2-5 Proximal Interphalangeal  
                                           -Distal Radioulnar
                                           -Lunate Capitate Joint 
                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint 
                                           -Radiocarpal Joint 
                                           -Scapholunate
                                           -Thumb Carpometacarpal 
                                           -Thumb Interphalangeal 
                                           -Thumb Metacarpal Phalangeal 
      • General Pain: use if diagnosis is unspecified. 
      • Ligament Sprain: an injury that occurs when a ligament is stretched or torn
        Locations available: -Digit 2-5 Distal Interphalangeal Ligament 
                                           -Digit 2-5 Metacarpal phalangeal Ligament 
                                           -Digit 2-5 Proximal Interphalangeal Ligament
                                           -Lunate Capitate Joint 
                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint
                                           -Scapholunate ligament 
                                           -Thumb Radial Collateral Ligament  
                                           -Thumb Ulnar Collateral Ligament
        Other terminology might include: 

        skier’s thumb (UCL), scapholunate, triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC)

      • Nerve injury/neuropathy: damage to the nerves.
        Locations available: -Lunate Capitate Joint 
                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint 
                                           -Median Nerve 
                                           -Radial Ligament 
                                           -Ulnar Ligament 
        Other terminology might include: 

        carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, radial nerve palsy, ulnar nerve entrapment, cyclist’s palsy  

      • Osteoarthritis (OA): arthritis in the joints. 
        Locations available: -Digit 2-5 Distal Interphalangeal Joint
                                           -Digit 2-5 Metacarpal phalangeal Joint 
                                           -Digit 2-5 Proximal Interphalangeal  Joint
                                           -Distal Radioulnar Joint

        Other terminology might include: DJD (degenerative joint disease), basal joint arthritis, CMC arthritis, trapezio-metacarpal arthritis
      • Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (TFCC) Tear/Degeneration: a condition where the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), a group of ligaments and cartilage in the wrist, becomes damaged over time or torn.

                                           -Lunate Triquetrum Joint 
      • Synovitis: an inflammation of the synovium, the lining of the joints.
        Locations available: -Digit 2-5 Distal Interphalangeal Joint
                                           -Digit 2-5 Metacarpal phalangeal Joint 
                                           -Digit 2-5 Proximal Interphalangeal  Joint
                                           -Distal Radioulnar Joint

      • Tendinosis: a degenerative condition that affects the tendons.

                                           -Extensor Carpi Ulnaris Tendon 
                                           -Extensor Digiti Minimi Tendon

                                           -Extensor Pollicis Brevis Tendon 
                                           -Extensor Pollicis Longus Tendon 
                                           -Flexor Carpi Radialis Tendon
